Friends of the Acres

Volunteers who take care of The Acres, Gnosall. Our Goal: To support with maintenance and improvements inline with The Acres biodiversity and management plan of the Gnosall Parish Council.

Friends of the Acres, Gnosall, is a new group of volunteers (many also part of Gnosall BKVC and other community groups) with a specific interest in preserving and improving the Acres as an area of Significant Scientific Interest (SSI) and a natural flood plane.

Gnosall Parish Council are in the process of implementing a 5-year management plan to ensure the biodiversity of this unique wetland is maintained and improved, and to ensure that the flow of the Doley Brook is unimpeded and to restore and improve the floodwater capacity of the wetland. This will hopefully alleviate flooding issues within the village, whilst re-establishing wildlife habitats.

This project is in the early stages, but with the formation of the Friends of the Acres, work has already started to remove some of the bulrush growth in the pools.

The Council are engaging with the Environment Agency and Staffordshire Wildlife Trust, to ensure that the river management is in line with national standards.

We are looking for volunteers to join the group and help us maintain this fantastic resource and facility for generations to come.
