The Parish Council
About Us
Gnosall is a vibrant parish with a rich history and a strong sense of community. Home to 5,040 residents, our parish continues to grow, reflecting the increasing appeal of rural living. Since the 2011 Census Gnosall has seen a notable rise in households, taking the number of homes to 2,300 (2021 Census).
Gnosall enjoys a prime location on the A518, perfectly positioned between the bustling market town of Newport (Shropshire) and the historic county town of Stafford. The village extends to Gnosall Heath, connected by Station Road where a railway station once stood, and separated by Doley Brook.
Our parish also encompasses the picturesque wards of Moreton and Knightley, and is near to several picturesque villages including Woodseaves, Cowley, Ranton, Church Eaton, and Haughton, each adding to the character and heritage of our wider community.
The parish is home to several unique historical features, including the Grade I listed St. Lawrence Church which dates back to Norman times, the Gnosall village lock-up which is one of just three surviving examples in the county, Coton Mill where local rumours suggest self-raising flour was invented, and several listed buildings and bridges across the parish.
Gnosall Parish Council works to improve the quality of life for local residents by managing services like youth projects, allotments, open spaces, footpaths, and community initiatives such as dementia-friendly groups and neighbourhood planning.
As the elected voice of the parish, the council makes decisions, represents local views, and works with other authorities to influence planning and services. It also acts as a first point of contact for residents needing help with local issues, ensuring concerns are heard and addressed.
