A new political map for Staffordshire County Council

The Local Government Boundary Commission is the independent body that draws boundaries for council divisions. In 2024 it reviewed the Staffordshire boundaries, and following public consultation, published their recommendations for future electoral arrangements for Staffordshire County Council.

The recommendations determine that Staffordshire is to have new boundaries for its council divisions. This is to ensure councillors will represent the same number of electors, and that division arrangements help the council work effectively.

The Commission proposed that there should continue to be 62 single-councillor divisions, however most division boundaries changed. The changes became law once Parliament approved them and staff at the Staffordshire County Council have ensured that the arrangements are in place for the 2025 elections.

What this means for Gnosall

As part of the review, it was proposed that the district ward of Eccleshall should be combined with the ward of Gnosall and Woodseaves, together with Ellenhall parish, to create a new county division.

This proposal was adopted on the grounds that Gnosall and Eccleshall have good road links, are similar rural communities that are dependent on Stafford or Newport for their amenities and share similar boundaries, which will facilitate effective and convenient local government.

This means that Gnosall is no longer linked with Stone for its county divisions, and this will be reflected in the councillors up for election this May. Residents will note that Cllr Mark Winnington is not on their electoral ballot this May, and these boundary changes are the reason.

Please see the revised boundary map below and your electoral candidates for the May Local Elections.
